The name Paul means “humble” while the name Renee’ stands for “rebirth”, like a Phoenix. As I attempt to grow in humility, I hope to be reborn into a better, more visionary version of myself.
Paul Jeffrey‘s career took him from the army into the automobile industry to a stressful period of low employment before he found his footing with his furniture company. In 2022, Paul began working for California Closets, a national custom closet manufacturer, after previously working at Walgreens. There, he learned about sales, manufacturing, and installation processes. With the housing boom in Phoenix, he saw an opportunity to create custom furniture as art. However, lacking the necessary furniture-making skills, they set out to find someone who did.
While working for California Closets, he was assigned a wealthy client who wanted a sculptural and elaborate closet but lost the job when the client learned that California Closets used particle board instead of solid wood. As they parted ways, Paul nervously turned to face the client and informed them that they had recently opened their shop and could build the product from solid wood. The client, invested in my design skills, offered me a 50k contract.

Paul’s team struggled for ten more years before mastering the craft of transforming raw materials into custom furniture that represented their client’s personalities and values. Their design philosophy began to separate their work from the competition, and they received numerous awards and accolades, including being named a DESIGN ICON by a respected industry trade magazine in 2018.

In 2019, Paul’s work received two 1st-place Design Excellence Awards from the American Society of Interior Designers. They were invited to speak at The Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague, Netherlands, in November 2019. In 2021, he was one of seven furniture designers chosen nationally to compete in Ellen DeGeneres’ Next Great Designer series, which streamed on HBOmax.
