Luxury Interior Door Styles And Doorways that make a Statement

Essentially, doors provide entry & exit from/into a space. Its primary purpose is to control access by providing security and privacy from external forces. The opening created in the wall is then referred to as the doorway. You probably know these already but suffice to mention. Doors can open in a number of different ways, attached by hinges, sliding on a plane parallel to the frame, by folding in angles on a straight line or by spinning along an axis on the frame.

There are many kinds of doors, used in interior design, for different purposes. It is important to note that some entrances have no doors but are marked by doorways to connect spaces together. A doorway can be used to frame views in a space. Whether you want to call attention to a corner in a room or a piece of art, framing a doorway can help you make that statement.

Here, I will highlight five key door types mostly used in our projects. This is not to say the other styles are irrelevant, these are just our top picks.

1. Pivot Doors

These are simply designed to rotate about its vertical axis. They are available with or without a stopper and can effortlessly revolve up to 360 degrees thus achieving an elegant swing into the space.

2. Hinged Doors

Hinged doors are probably the most common door type. It can be made up of a number of materials including but not limited to aluminum, solid wood, P.V.C, steel and fibre glass. They can be used in almost any application in which a door is required internally or externally.

3. Pocket Doors

The special feature of a pocket door is that it gets to disappear into a special cavity inside the wall when opened. These door types are generally top-hung and slides along a track mounted on the ceiling or door lintel. They are sometimes used to separate two rooms so that they may be joined as need arises. It is also highly recommended for small spaces where you need to maximize every square inch of area.

4. Bifold Doors

If you are looking for a seamless connection and smooth transition inside and out of large spaces, choose bifold. Bifold doors give a neat stack of door panels providing a gloriously open access to corridors, lobbies and an expansive feeling inside the actual space. They are highly recommended when you want toilet the outside in, where there is a high traffic of users per time.

5. Swing Doors

Swing doors look like hinged doors but here the hinges can angle in either direction. Here, a shutter is fixed to the frame with double action spring hinges which enables the movement on either sides. They make excellent emergency doors, used in hospitals. Most swing doors are manual but when you choose an automated swing door, you get a whole range of additional benefits.

Doorways are also used a lot in museums to easily connect people to the art so you sometimes find repeated doorways that can be heavily decorated or not, for a tunnel-like view.
